సౌందర్యలహరి ౧౧ - ౨౦ (ఆనందలహరి)


చతుర్భిః శ్రీకంఠైః శివయువతిభిః పంచభిరపి
ప్రభిన్నాభిః శంభోర్నవభిరపి మూలప్రకృతిభిః ,
చతుశ్చత్వారింశద్ వసుదల కలాశ్ర త్రివలయ
త్రిరేఖాభిః సార్ధం తవ శరణకోణాః పరిణతాః . ౧౧ .

చతుర్భిః శ్రీకంఠైః - with the four Srikanta (Siva) cakras
శివ యువతిభిః - Sivayuvati (Sakti) cakras
పంచభిః అపి - and with five
ప్రభిన్నాభిః - seperate from
శంభోః - from those of Sambhu (the Siva) cakras
నవభిః అపి - and with nine
మూల ప్రకృతిభిః - source materials of the universe
చతుశ్చత్వారింశత్ - forty four
వసు దల - eight petalled (lotus)
కలా అశ్ర - sixteen edged (lotus)
త్రి వలయ - three circles
త్రి రేఖాభిః - with three lines
సార్ధం - with
తవ శరణ కోణాః - the angles of your abode
పరిణతాః - come to a close

The angles of your abode come to a close with forty four with four Srikantha (cakras) and five Sivayuvati (cakras), seperate from the Sambhu (Siva) cakras and (hence) with the nine source materials of the universe, along with the eight petalled (lotus), the sixteen edged (lotus), the three circles (and) with three lines.
(The abode of Sakti is the thousand petalled lotus in the brain.
Cf SVL Verse 11 : The devotee worships Siva with the lotus of the heart).
Note : The twelve petalled Anahata cakra, is at the level of the heart, with Rudra as the presiding deity.

త్వదీయం సౌందర్యం తుహినగిరి కన్యే తులయితుం
కవీంద్రాః కల్పంతే కథమపి విరించి ప్రభృతయః ,
యదాలోకౌత్సుక్యాదమరలలనా యాంతి మనసా
తపోభిర్దుష్ప్రాపామపి గిరిశ సాయుజ్య పదవీమ్ . ౧౨ .

త్వదీయం - your
సౌందర్యం - beauty
తుహిన గిరి కన్యే - Oh daughter of the snowy mountain (Himalayas, personified as Himavaan)! (Sakti)
తులయితుం - to compare
కవీంద్రాః - the best of poets
కల్పంతే - are able
కథం అపి - somehow or other
విరించి ప్రభృతయః - Virinchi (Brahma) and others
యత్ ఆలోక ఔత్సుక్యాత్ - out of ardent desire to see which (your beauty)
అమర లలనాః - celestial women
యాంతి మనసా - attain through the mind (by imagination)
తపోభిః దుష్ప్రాపాం అపి - though difficult to obtain by penance
గిరిశ - Girisa (Lord of the mountains, (Siva)
సాయుజ్య పదవీం - the position of absorption into the deity (one of the states of Mukti or Liberation)

Oh daughter of the snowy mountain! the best of poets (such as) Virinchi and others are able to compare your beauty somehow or other. Out of ardent desire to see which celestial women attain through the mind the position of absorption into Girisa though (it be) difficult to obtain by penance.
(Absorption into Siva by the mind (by imagination).

నరం వర్షీయాంసం నయనవిరసం నర్మసు జడం
తవాపాంగాలోకే పతితమనుధావంతి శతశః
గలద్వేణీ బంధాః కుచకలశ విస్రస్త సిచయా
హఠాత్ త్రుటయత్కాంచ్యో విగలిత దుకూలా యువతయః . ౧౩ .

నరం - a man
వర్షీయాంసం - very old
నయన విరసం - unpleasant to the eye
నర్మసు జడం - apathetic in amorous sport
తవ అపాంగ - the corner of your eye
ఆలోకే - within range of sight
పతితం - falls
అనుధావంతి - pursue
శతశః - by the hundreds
గలత్ వేణీ బంధాః - with braided hair loosened
కుచ కలశ - the pitcher like breasts (shapely bossom)
విస్రస్త సిచయా - with cloth slipping
హఠాత్ - suddenly
త్రుటయత్ కాంచ్యః - waist ornaments snapping
విగలిత దుకూలాః - with silk garments dropping down
యువతయః - young women (personifications of Fame, Wealth, Speech, Intellect, Firmness, Patience etc.)

When a man falls within range of sight of the corner of your eye, (though) very old, unpleasant to the eye, and apathetic in amorous sport, young women pursue him by the hundreds, with braided hair loosened, with cloth slipping from the shapely bosom, with waist ornaments snapping suddenly and with silk garments dropping down.
(The devotee is old, unpleasant, apathetic - unattractive
by worldly norms.
Cf SVL Verse 13 : The devotee is dull witted, blind, poor - unattractive by worldly norms).

క్షితౌ షట్పంచాశద్ ద్విసమధిక పంచాశదుదకే
హుతాశే ద్వాషష్టిశ్చతురధిక పంచాశదనిలే ,
దివి ద్విఃషట్త్రింశన్ మనసి చ చతుఃషష్టిరితి యే
మయూఖాస్తేషామప్యుపరి తవపదాంబుజ యుగమ్ . ౧౪ .

క్షితౌ - in the earth element (of the Muladhara cakra)
షట్పంచాశత్ - fifty six
ద్విసమధిక పంచాశత్ - fifty two
ఉదకే - in the water element (of the Manipura cakra)
హుతాశే - in the fire element (of the Svadhishthana cakra)
ద్వాషష్టి - sixty two
చతురధిక పంచాశత్ - fifty four
అనిలే - in the air element (of the Anahata cakra)
దివి - in the space element (of the Vishuddhi cakra)
ద్విః షట్త్రింశత్ - twice thirty six
మనసి చ - and in the mind element (of the Aangya cakra)
చతుః షష్టి - sixty four
ఇతి యే మయూఖాః - those rays that are thus (disposed)
తేషాం అపి ఉపరి - even above those
తవ - your
పాద అంబుజ యుగమ్ - pair of lotus feet

Your pair of lotus feet are even above those rays that are thus (disposed) : fifty six in the earth element, fifty two in the water element, sixty two in the fire element, fifty four in the air element, twice thirty six in the space element, and sixty four in the mind element.
(Sakti is both immanent and transcendent.
Cf SVL Verse 14 : Siva visualised as the relative of the devotee is immanent).

శరజ్జ్యోత్స్నా శుద్ధాం శశియుత జటాజూట మకుటాం
వర త్రాస త్రాణ స్ఫటిక ఘుటికా పుస్తక కరామ్ ,
సకృన్న త్వా నత్వా కథమివ సతాం సన్నిదధతే
మధు క్షీర ద్రాక్షా మధురిమ ధురిణాః ఫణితయః . ౧౫ .

శరత్ జ్యోత్స్నా - autumnal moonlight
శుద్ధాం - who is pure
శశియుత - endowed with the moon
జటా జూట మకుటాం - who has a tiara on the mass of twisted hair
వర - (gesticulate) granting of boon
త్రాస త్రాణ - protection from fear
స్ఫటిక ఘుటికా - crystal beads
పుస్తక కరాం - whose hand (holds) the book
సకృత్ - once
న - not
త్వా నత్వా - having bowed to you
కథం ఇవ - how is it
సతాం సన్నిదధతే - present for good people
మధు - honey
క్షీర - milk
ద్రాక్షా - grape
మధురిమ ధురిణాః - charged with sweetness
ఫణీతయః - words

How cannot words charged with the sweetness of honey, milk and grape not be present in the words, for good people who have bowed once to you, who is pure as the autumnal moonlight, who has a tiara on the mass of twisted hair endowed with the moon, and whose hands (gesticulate) the granting of boon (and) protection from fear, (and hold) the crystal beads and book.
(Worship of Sakti bestows the grace of Saraswati.

కవీంద్రాణాం చేతః కమలవన బాలాతప రుచిం
భజంతే యే సంతః కతిచిదరుణామేవ భవతీమ్ ,
విరించి ప్రేయస్యాస్తరుణతర శ్రృంగార లహరీ
గభీరాభిర్వాగ్భిర్విదధతి సతాం రంజనమమీ . ౧౬ .

కవీంద్రాణాం చేతః - the minds of the best of poets
కమల వన - lotus cluster
బాల ఆతప రుచిం - light of the morning sun
భజంతే - (they) worship
యే సంతః కతిచిత్ - those few good men
అరుణాం ఏవ భవతీమ్ - you as the red dawn itself
విరించి ప్రేయస్యాః - of the beloved of Virinchi (Saraswati)
తరుణతర - fresher (ever fresh)
శ్రృంగార లహరీ - wave of the (poetic) sentiment of love
గభీరాభిః వాగ్భిః - by profound words
విదధతి - (they) give
సతాం - to good men
రంజనం - (aesthetic) pleasure
అమీ - they

To the lotus cluster like minds of the best of poets, you are the light of the morning sun. Those few good men who worship you as the red dawn itself, they give (aesthetic) pleasure to good men, by profound words (like) the fresher wave of the sentiment of love (emnating) from the beloved of Virinchi (herself).
(The poetry of the devotee compares with that of the wife
of Virinchi.

సవిత్రీభిర్వాచాం శశిమణి శిలాభంగ రుచిభిః
వశిన్యాద్యాభిస్త్వాం సహ జనని సంచింతయతి యః ,
స కర్తా కావ్యానాం భవతి మహతాం భంగిరుచిభిః
వచోభిర్వాగ్దేవీ వదనకమలామోద మధురైః . ౧౭ .

సవిత్రీభిః వాచాం - with the generators of speech (Vagdevatas)
శశిమణి శిలా - moon stone gem
భంగ రుచిభిః - lustre of the broken
వశినీ ఆద్యాభిః - with Vasini and others (the 18 Vagdevatas)
త్వాం సహ - together with you
జనని - Oh Mother! (Sakti)
సంచింతయతి యః - he who reflects
సః కర్తా కావ్యానాం భవతి - he is the author of poetic composition
మహతాం - great (poets)
భంగి రుచిభిః - with the beauty of wit
వచోభిః - with words
వాక్ దేవీ వదన కమల - the lotus face of the goddess of speech
ఆమోద మధురైః - sweetly fragrant

Oh Mother! he who reflects on you together with Vasini and others, who are the generators of speech, and who have the lustre of the broken moon stone gem, he is the author of poetic composition with the beauty of wit of the great (poets) and with words that are sweetly fragrant as the lotus face of the goddess of speech.
(Sakti is surrounded by the celestials, the Vagdevatas.

celestials).

తనుచ్ఛాయాభిస్తే తరుణ తరణి శ్రీసరణిభిః
ర్దివం సర్వాముర్వీమరుణిమనిమగ్నాం స్మరతి యః ,
భవంత్యస్య త్రస్యద్వనహరిణ శాలీన నయనాః
సహోర్వశ్యా వశ్యాః కతి కతి న గీర్వాణ గణికాః . ౧౮ .

తనుచ్ఛాయాభిః - by the lustre of body
తే - your
తరుణ తరణి శ్రీః - the lustre of the newly risen sun
సరణిభిః - with arrangement
దివం - heaven
సర్వాం ఉర్వీం - all the earth
అరుణిమని మగ్నాం - immersed in redness
స్మరతి యః - he who thinks
భవంతి అస్య - to him
త్రస్యత్ వన హరిణ - frightened forest deer
శాలీన నయనాః - eyes resembling
సహ ఊర్వశ్యాః - along with Urvasi (the most beautiful of the
celestial maidens)
వశ్యాః - (are) submissive
కతి కతి - how many
న - not
గీర్వాణ గణికాః - celestial courtesans

He who thinks all heaven and earth as immersed in redeness by the lustre of your body, with an arrangement like the lustre of the newly risen sun, to him, how many celestial courtesans along with Urvasi, with eyes resembling frightened forest deer are not submissive ? (Indeed all are submissive)
(The celestials submit to Sakti's devotee.
Cf SVL Verse 18 : The celestials worship Siva).

ముఖం బిందుం కృత్వా కుచయుగమధస్తస్య తదధో
హరార్ధం ధ్యాయేద్యో హరమహిషి తే మన్మథకలామ్ ,
స సద్యః సంక్షోభం నయతి వనితా ఇత్యతి లఘు
త్రిలోకీమప్యాశు భ్రమయతి రవీందు స్తనయుగామ్ . ౧౯ .

ముఖం - face
బిందుం - the central circle of the Sricakra (representing Siva
and Sakti in the causal stage of creation)
కృత్వా - having regarded
కుచ యుగం - the pair of breasts
అధః తస్య - below that
తత్ అధః - below that
హరార్ధం - the lower half of Siva (Yoni or the female organs of generation)
ధ్యాయేత్ యః - he who will meditate
హరమహిషి - Oh queen of Hara (Siva)! (Sakti)
తే మన్మథకలాం - your manifestation of creative will
సః సద్యః - he immediately
సంక్షోభం నయతి - reduces (them) to a state of agitation
వనితా - women
ఇతి అతి లఘు - as for this, it is very easy
త్రిలోకీం అపి - even the maiden of the three worlds (personified as a woman)
ఆశు భ్రమయతి - quickly deludes
రవి ఇందు స్తన యుగాం - with the sun and moon for the pair of breasts

Oh queen of Hara! he who meditates on your manifestation of creative will, having regarded the Bindu as (your) face, the bosom (as) below that, and the female organs of generation (as) below that, he immediately reduces women to a state of agitation. As for this, it is very easy. He even deludes quickly, the maiden of the three worlds with the sun and moon for the pair of breasts.
(The devotee of Sakti overcomes the world with ease.

overcome worldly life).

కిరంతీమంగేభ్యః కిరణ నికురుంబామృతరసం
హృది త్వామాధత్తే హిమకరశిలా మూర్తిమివ యః ,
స సర్పాణాం దర్పం శమయతి శకుంతాధిప ఇవ
జ్వరప్లుష్టాన్ దృష్ట్యా సుఖయతి సుధా ధారసిరయా . ౨౦ .

కిరంతీం - scattering
అంగేభ్యః - from the body parts
కిరణ నికురుంబ - multitude of rays
అమృత రసం - the essence of nectar
హృది - in the heart
త్వాం - you
ఆధత్తే - he fixes
హిమకర శిలా - moon stone
మూర్తిం ఇవ - like an idol
యః సః - he, who
సర్పాణాం దర్పం - the pride of serpents (poison)
శమయతి - he destroys
శకుంతాధిపః ఇవ - like the lord of birds (Garuda)
జ్వర ప్లుష్టాన్ - those scorched by fever
దృష్ట్యా - by a look
సుఖయతి - he comforts
సుధా ధార సిరయా - endowed with a (blood) vessel (nadi) streaming nectar (and not blood)

He who fixes you in the heart scattering from the body parts, the essence of nectar like the multitude of rays from an idol of moonstone, he destroys the pride of serpents like the lord of birds, (and) comforts those scorched by fever by a (mere) look, endowed (as he is) with the vessel streaming nectar.
(The devotee of Sakti subdues the pride of serpents
Cf SVL Verse 20 : The monkey of the heart is subdued by
devotion to Siva).
