సౌందర్యలహరి ౪౨ - ౫౦

గతైర్మాణిక్యత్వం గగనమణిభిః సాంద్రఘటితం
కిరీటం తే హైమం హిమగిరిసుతే కీర్తయతి యః ,
స నీడేయచ్ఛాయాచ్ఛురణశబలం చంద్ర శకలం
ధనుః శౌనాసీరం కిమితి న నిబధ్నాతి ధిషణామ్ . ౪౨ .

గతైః మాణిక్యత్వం - which have become gems
గగన మణిభిః - with the twelve Adityas (suns)
సాంద్ర ఘటితం - densely combined
కిరీటం తే - your crown
హైమం - golden
హిమ గిరి సుతే - Oh daughter of the snowy mountain! (Sakti)
కీర్తయతి యః - he who narrates
నీడేయచ్ఛాయా - lustre of the celestial orbs
ఛురణ శబలం - enveloped by variegated colour
చంద్ర శకలం - the fragment of the moon (crescent moon)
ధనుః శౌనాసీరం - bow of Indra (rainbow)
కిం ఇతి - is it?
న నిబధ్నాతి - will he not compose?
ధిషణామ్ - in the hymn

Oh daughter of the snowy mountain! he who narrates of your golden crown with the twelve suns which have become gems that are densely combined, will he not compose in the hymn that the fragment of the moon is the rainbow, enveloped as it is by variegated colour from the lustre of the celestial orbs (the suns)?

ధునోతు ధ్వాంతం నస్తులితదలితేందీవర వనం

వసంత్యస్మిన్ మన్యే వలమథన వాటీ విటపినామ్ . ౪౩ .

ధునోతు - let it remove
ధ్వాంతం నః - our darkness (ignorance)
తులిత - resembles
దలిత ఇందీవర వనం - the full bloomed blue lotus cluster
ఘన స్నిగ్ధ - which is dense, glossy
శ్లక్ష్ణం - soft
చికుర నికురుంబం - mass of hair
తవ శివే - your Oh Sivaa! (Sakti)
యత్ ఇయం - of which (this hair)
సౌరభ్యం - fragrance
సహజం - natural
ఉపలబ్ధుం - to obtain
సుమనసః - the flowers
వసంతి - dwell
అస్మిన్ - in this (it)
మన్యే - I think
వల మథన - the enemy of Vala (Indra)
వాటీ విటపినామ్ - the trees of the garden

Oh Sivaa! let your mass of hair which is dense, glossy (and) soft, which resembles the full bloomed blue lotus cluster remove our darkness. I think, to obtain the natural fragrance of which, the flowers of the trees of the garden of Indra dwell in it.

ద్విషాం బృందైర్బందీకృతమివ నవీనార్క కిరణమ్ . ౪౪ .

తనోతు - let it grant
క్షేమం నః - our well being
తవ - your
వదన సౌందర్య లహరీ - wave of facial beauty
పరీవాహ స్రోతః - overflowing stream
సరణిః ఇవ - like the path
సీమంత సరణిః - the line of hair parting
వహంతీ - which bears
సిందూరం - vermillion powder (worn by married women as an auspicious symbol)
ప్రబల - the very great
కబరీ భార - mass of hair
తిమిర - darkness
ద్విషాం బృందైః - multitude of foes
బందీ కృతం ఇవ - as if captured by
నవీన - newly (risen)
అర్క కిరణం - ray of the sun

Let (your) line of hair parting, which is like the path of an overflowing stream from the wave of your facial beauty, which bears the vermillion powder, (like) the ray of the newly (risen) sun, (and) which is as if captured by the very great mass of hair, like the multitude of foes (in the form of) darkness, grant our well being.

సుగంధౌ మాద్యంతి స్మర దహన చక్షుర్మధులిహః . ౪౫ .

సశ్రీభిః - with the beauty
అలకైః - by hair
పరీతం - surrounded
తే వక్త్రం - your face
పరిహసతి - ridicules
పంకేరుహ రుచిం - the beauty of the lotus
దరస్మేరే - slight smile
యస్మిన్ - in which (your face)
దశన రుచి - the lustrous teeth
కింజల్క రుచిరే - the beautiful lotus filaments
గంధౌ - which is fragrant
మాద్యంతి - they rejoice
స్మర దహన - the scorcher of Cupid (Siva)
చక్షుః - the eyes
మధులిహః - the bees

Your face surrounded by naturally curly hair with the beauty of young bees, ridicules the beauty of the lotus. In which (face), there is a slight smile, the lustrous teeth are the beautiful lotus filaments, which is fragrant, and in which the honey bees of the eyes of Siva rejoice.

సుధాలేపస్యూతిః పరిణమతి రాకా హిమకరః . ౪౬ .

లావణ్య ద్యుతి - lustrous beauty
విమలం - pure
ఆభాతి - shines
తవ - of your's
యత్ - that
ద్వితీయం - the second
తత్ మన్యే - I think, it
మకుట ఘటితం - enjoined to the crown
చంద్ర శకలం - fragment of moon (crescent moon)
విపర్యాస న్యాసాత్ - on placing in reverse
ఉభయం - the two
అపి - and
సంభూయ చ మిథః - and combined mutually
సుధా లేప స్యూతిః - with the seam plastered by nectar
పరిణమతి - transforms
రాకా హిమకరః - the moon on a full moon night

That forehead of yours which shines with pure lustrous beauty, I think it to be the second fragment of moon, enjoined to (your) crown. And the two on placing in reverse, and combined mutually, with the seam plastered by nectar, transforms into the moon on a full moon night.

భ్రువౌ భుగ్నే కించిద్ భువన భయ భంగ వ్యసనిని
త్వదీయే నేత్రాభ్యాం మధుకర రుచిభ్యాం ధృతగుణమ్ ,
ధనుర్మన్యే సవ్యేతరకర గృహీతం రతిపతేః
ప్రకోష్ఠే ముష్టౌ చ స్థగయతి నిగూఢాంతరముమే . ౪౭ .

భ్రువౌ - eyebrows
భుగ్నే కించిత్ - slightly curved
భువన భయ భంగ వ్యసనిని - Oh one devoted to defeating fear of the world! (Sakti)
త్వదీయే - your
నేత్రాభ్యాం - with (your) eyes
మధుకర రుచిభ్యాం - beautiful as bees
ధృత గుణం ధనుః - the bow with (bow) string fixed
మన్యే - I think
సవ్యేతరకర గృహీతం - grasped by the left hand
రతి పతేః - of the husband of Rati (Cupid)
ప్రకోష్ఠే ముష్టౌ చ - the elbows and fist
స్థగయతి - conceals
నిగూఢాంతరం - hidden middle
ఉమే - Oh Uma! (Sakti)

Oh Uma! Oh one devoted to destroying fear of the world ! I think your slightly curved eyebrows are (like) the bow of Cupid, with (your eyes), beautiful as bees, the fixed bow string, grasped by the left hand, with the middle hidden by the elbow and the fist which conceals (it).

సమాధత్తే సంధ్యాం దివస నిశయోరంతరచరీమ్ . ౪౮ .

అహః - the day
సూతే - begets
సవ్య తవ నయనం - your right eye
అర్కాత్మకతయా - being of the nature of the sun
త్రియామం - night
వామం తే - your left
సృజతి - creates
రజనీ నాయకతయా - being of the nature of the moon
తృతీయా - third
తే దృష్టిః - your eye
దర దలిత - slightly blossomed
హేమాంబుజ - golden lotus
రుచిః - lustre
సమాధత్తే - produces well
సంధ్యాం - twilight
దివస నిశయోః - day and night
అంతర చరీమ్ - abiding in between

Your right eye being of the nature of the sun, begets the day, your left (eye) being of the nature of the moon creates the night. Your third eye with the lustre of a slightly blossomed golden lotus produces well the twilight, abiding inbetween the day and night.

ధ్రువం తత్తన్నామ వ్యవహరణ యోగ్యా విజయతే . ౪౯ .

విశాలా - wide
కల్యాణీ - auspicious
స్ఫుట రుచిః - full bloomed beauty
అయోధ్యా - unassailable (in beauty)
కువలయైః - by blue water lilies
కృపా ధారా - stream of compassion
ఆధారా - reservoir
కిం అపి మధురా - indescribably sweet
ఆభోగవతికా - long
అవంతీ - protecting
దృష్టిః తే - your eyes
బహు నగర - many cities
విస్తార విజయా - surpassing the expanse
ధ్రువం - certainly
తత్ తత్ నామ - by their respective names (the cities named Visala, Kalyani, Ayodhya, Dhara, Madhura, Bhogavati, Avanti and Vijaya)
వ్యవహరణ యోగ్యా - deserving of usage
విజయతే - victorious

Wide, auspicious, of full bloomed beauty, unassailable by blue water lilies, the reservoir of a stream of compassion, indescribably sweet, long, protecting, surpassing the expanse of many cities and deserving of usage by their respective names (Visala, Kalyani etc.), your eyes are certainly victorious.

నవ రస - nine (poetic) sentiments (Sringara, Raudra, Vira, Bhayanaka, Hasya, Karuna, Adbhuta, Bibhatsa and Santa)
ఆస్వాద తరలౌ - wanton in the relish
అసూయా - envy
సంసర్గాత్ - by contact with
అలిక నయనం - the eye on the forehead
కించిత్ అరుణమ్ - is a little red

Having seen your distracted glance (resembling) young bees solely relishing the honey of the flower cluster of the composition of poets, wanton in the relish of the nine sentiments (Sringara etc.) not releasing (your) pair of ears, the eye on (your) forehead is a little red by contact with envy.
