సౌందర్యలహరి ౨౧ - ౩౦ (ఆనందలహరి)

తటిల్లేఖా తన్వీం తపన శశి వైశ్వానరమయీం
నిషణ్ణాం షణ్ణామప్యుపరి కమలానాం తవ కలాం ,
మహాపద్మాటవ్యాం మృదితమలమాయేన మనసా
మహాంతః పశ్యంతో దధతి పరమాహ్లాద లహరీమ్ . ౨౧ .

తటిల్లేఖా తన్వీం - slender as a streak of lightning (Kundalini or coiled up energy or aspect of Sakti within the indiviual, having evolved the twenty five categories within, corresponding to the macrocosm without).
తపన - sun
శశి - moon
వైశ్వానరమయీం - of the nature of fire
నిషణ్ణాం - seated
షణ్ణాం - the six
అపి - and (the three granthis or knots - Brahma, Vishnu and Rudra, seperating the cakras)
ఉపరి - above
కమలానాం - the lotuses (yogic cakras)
తవ కలాం - your aspect (as Sadakhya, from the union of the Kundalini with the Sadasiva tattva and which is the source of the twenty five categories of the universe.
మహా పద్మాటవ్యాం - in the great lotus forest (the Sahasrara)
మృదిత మల మాయేన - free from sin and illusion
మనసా - by a mind
మహాంతః - greatmen
పశ్యంతః - those who perceive
దధతి - pocess
పరం ఆహ్లాద లహరీం - the wave of supreme joy

Great men who perceive by a mind free from sin and illusion, your aspect (as the Sadakhya kala), seated in the great lotus forest (the Sahasrara), above the six lotuses (yogic cakras) and (the granthis or knots), slender as a streak of lightning, of the nature of the sun, moon and fire, possess the wave of supreme joy.
(The mind of the devotee, free from sin and illusion,
perceives Siva - Sakti in the great lotus forest.
Cf SVL, Verse 21 : Siva - Sakti reach the pure, lotus
like heart of the devotee).

భవాని త్వం దాసే మయి వితర దృష్టిం సకరుణాం
ఇతి స్తోతుం వాంఛన్ కథయతి భవాని త్వమితి యః ,
తదైవ త్వం తస్మై దిశసి నిజసాయుజ్య పదవీం
ముకుంద బ్రహ్మేంద్ర స్ఫుట మకుట నీరాజితపదామ్ . ౨౨ .

భవాని - Oh Bhavani! (Sakti)
త్వం దాసే మయి - on me your slave
వితర - you bestow
దృష్టిం - look
సకరుణాం - endowed with compassion
ఇతి - thus
స్తోతుం వాంఛన్ - desiring to praise
కథయతి - says
భవాని త్వం ఇతి - may I become you, thus (by treating the word "Bhavani" as a verbal declension, one elevates the meaning to that of the aphorisitic declaration : అహం బ్రహ్మాస్మి).
యః - he
తదా ఏవ - at that moment itself
త్వం - you
తస్మై దిశసి - you grant to him
నిజ సాయుజ్య పదవీం - the state of perpetual absorption of the self into the deity (one of the four states of Mukti or Liberation)
ముకుంద - Mukunda (Hari)
బ్రహ్మ - Brahma
ఇంద్ర - Indra
స్ఫుట మకుట - bright diadems
నీరాజిత పదాం - feet which receive the oblation of lights

"Oh Bhavani! bestow on me your slave, (your) look endowed with compassion". He who desiring to praise you thus, (and) says thus : "May I become you". At that moment itself, you, whose feet receive the oblation of lights from the bright diadems of Mukunda, Brahma, and Indra, grant to him the state of perpetual absorption into the deity.
(The devotee entreats Sakti to bestow compassion.
Cf SVL Verse 22: The devotee entreats Siva to
bestow compassion).

త్వయా హృత్వా వామం వపురపరితృప్తేన మనసా
శరీరార్ధం శంభోరపరమపి శంకే హృతమభూత్ ,
యదేతత్ త్వద్రూపం సకలమరుణాభం త్రినయనం
కుచాభ్యామానమ్రం కుటిల శశి చూడాల మకుటమ్ . ౨౩ .

త్వయా - by you
హృత్వా - having taken over
వామం వపుః - the left half of the body
అపరితృప్తేన మనసా - with a dissatisfied mind
శరీరార్ధం - half of the body
శంభోః - of Sambhu (Siva)
అపరం అపి - the other (half) also
శంకే - I think
హృతం అభూత్ - was taken
యత్ - because
ఏతత్ త్వత్ రూపం - this your form
సకలం అరుణాభం - entirely red
త్రి నయనం - has three eyes
కుచాభ్యాం ఆనమ్రం - curved by the bosom
కుటిల శశి - the crescent moon
చూడాల మకుటమ్ - crown crested

I think having taken over the left half of the body of Sambhu, with a (still) dissatisfied mind, the other (half) of the body was also taken over by you. Because, this form of your's is entirely red, has three eyes, is curved by the bosom (and) has a crown crested by the crescent moon.
(Sakti is dissatisfied by anything less than total identity
with Siva. Cf SVL, Verse 23 : The devotee is dissatisfied by anything less than seeing Siva).

జగత్సూతే ధాతా హరిరవతి రుద్రః క్షపయతే
తిరస్కుర్వన్ ఏతత్ స్వయమపి వపురీశస్తిరయతి ,
సదా పూర్వః సర్వం తదిదమనుగృహ్ణాతి చ శివ
స్తవాజ్ఞామాలంబ్య క్షణచలితయోః భ్రూలతికయోః . ౨౪ .

జగత్ సూతే - begets the world
ధాతా - Dhata (Brahma)
హరిః అవతి - Hari (Vishnu) protects
రుద్రః క్షపయతే - Rudra destroys
తిరస్కుర్వన్ - withdrawing
ఏతత్ - this (Dhata, Hari and Rudra)
స్వయం అపి వపుః - even his own body
ఈశః - Isa
తిరయతి - obscures (Isa withdraws into Sadasiva. ie universal dissolution)
సదా పూర్వః - preceeded by the word "Sada" (perpetual)
సర్వం తత్ ఇదం - in all this
అనుగృహ్ణాతి - obliges
చ - indeed
శివః - Siva (Sadasiva, who is passive and in eternal union with Sakti)
తవ ఆజ్ఞాం ఆలంబ్య - stayed by your order
క్షణ చలితయోః - exhibiting momentary movement
భ్రూ లతికయోః - of the eyebrows

Dhata begets the world. Hari protects (it). Rudra destroys (it). Isa withdrawing this (Dhata, Hari and Rudra), obscures even his own body (by withdrawing into Sadasiva). Indeed Siva (whose name) is preceded by (the word) Sada, obliges in all this, stayed by your order, exhibited by the momentary movement of (your) eyebrows.
(The cycles of creation are at the behest of Sakti.
Cf SVL, Verse 24 : The devotee wishes to spend the cycles
of creation worshipping Siva).

త్రయాణాం దేవానాం త్రిగుణ జనితానాం తవ శివే
భవేత్ పూజా పూజా తవ చరణయోర్యా విరచితా ,
తథా హి త్వత్పాదోద్వహన మణిపీఠస్య నికటే
స్థితా హ్యేతే శశ్వన్ముకులిత కరోత్తంస మకుటాః . ౨౫ .

త్రయాణాం దేవానాం - of the three gods (Brahma, Vishnu and Rudra)
త్రి గుణ జనితానాం - born of the three properties (Sattva, Rajas and Tamas)
తవ - your
శివే - Oh Sivaa ! (Sakti)
భవేత్ పూజా - becomes homage
పూజా - homage
తవ చరణయోః - to your feet
యా విరచితా - that made
తథా హి - this is appropriate
త్వత్ పాద - your feet
ఉద్వహన - supporting
మణి పీఠస్య - of the gem (studded) pedestal
నికటే - in proximity
స్థితాః - (they) stand
హి ఏతే - indeed these (gods)
శశ్వత్ - eternally
ముకులిత కరః - hands held together in the shape of a bud
ఉత్తంస మకుటాః - cresting (their) crowns

Oh Sivaa ! that homage made to your feet becomes homage to the three gods born of your three properties. This is appropriate (for) indeed these stand in proximity to the gem (studded) pedestal, supporting your feet, with hands held together in the form of a bud, cresting (their) crowns eternally.
(Sakti is worshipped by Brahma and others.
Cf SVL Verse 25 : Siva is worshipped by Brahma and others).

విరించిః పంచత్వం వ్రజతి హరిరాప్నోతి విరతిం
వినాశం కీనాశో భజతి ధనదో యాతి నిధనమ్ ,
వితంద్రీ మాహేంద్రీ వితతిరపి సంమీలిత దృశా
మహాసంహారేऽస్మిన్ విహరతి సతి త్వత్పతిరసౌ . ౨౬ .

విరించిః - Virinchi (Brahma)
పంచత్వం వ్రజతి - proceeds to death (dissolution into the five elements)
హరిః - Hari (Vishnu)
ఆప్నోతి విరతిం - meets an end
వినాశం - destruction
కీనాశః - Kinaasa (Yama, the lord of death)
భజతి - obtains
ధనదః - Dhanada (Kubera, the lord of wealth)
యాతి నిధనం - proceeds to death
వితంద్రీ - are in deep sleep (of death)
మాహేంద్రీ వితతిః అపి - the group of Mahendras (Indra the lord of gods) also
సంమీలిత దృశా - with eyes closed
మహా సంహారే అస్మిన్ - in this the great universal destruction
విహరతి - he sports
సతి - Oh Sati! (chaste wife) (Sakti)
త్వత్ పతిః అసౌ - this your husband (Sadasiva)

Virinchi proceeds to death. Hari meets an end. Kinaasa obtains destruction. Dhanada proceeds to death. The group of Indras are also in deep sleep (death) with eyes closed. Oh Sati! in this great universal destruction, this (Sadasiva) your husband sports.
(Brahma and others perish at the end of the creative cycle
Cf SVL, verse 26 : The devotee seeks the joy not vouchsafed
to Brahma and others).

జపో జల్పః శిల్పం సకలమపి ముద్రా విరచనా
గతిః ప్రాదక్షిణ్య క్రమణమశనాద్యాహుతి విధిః ,
ప్రణామః సంవేశః సుఖమఖిలమాత్మార్పణ దృశా
సపర్యా పర్యాయస్తవ భవతు యన్మే విలసితమ్ . ౨౭ .

జపః - muttered prayers
జల్పః - speech
శిల్పం - manual tasks
సకలం అపి - and all
ముద్రా విరచనా - the symbolic arrangement of fingers in worship
గతిః - the gait
ప్రాదక్షిణ్య క్రమణం - the steps of circambulation of the deity
అశనాది - food etc.
ఆహుతి విధిః - the method of offering oblations
ప్రణామః - salutation
సంవేశః - sleep
సుఖం అఖిలం - all that is facile
ఆత్మార్పణ దృశా - from the point of view of offering the self
సపర్యా పర్యాయః - synonymous with worship
తవ భవతు - let it be to you
యత్ మే విలసితమ్ - that which is manifested in me

Let speech be muttered prayers, and all manual tasks the symbolic arrangement of fingers in worship, let gait be the steps of circambulation of the deity, let food etc. be the method of offering oblations, let sleep be salutation, let all that is facilely manifested in me be synonymous with worship to you
from the point of view of offering the self (in worship).
(The devotee offers all bodily functions to Sakti.
Cf SVL, verse 27 : The devotee offers his mind to
Siva).

సుధామప్యాస్వాద్య ప్రతిభయ జరా మృత్యు హరిణీం
విపద్యంతే విశ్వే విధి శతమఖాద్యా దివిషదః ,
కరాలం యత్ క్ష్వేలం కబలితవతః కాలకలనా
న శంభోస్తన్మూలం తవ జనని తాటంక మహిమా . ౨౮ .

సుధాం అపి - even ambrosia
ఆస్వాద్య - having eaten
ప్రతిభయ - the fearful
జరా మృత్యు - old age (and) death
హరిణీం - that which removes
విపద్యంతే - they die
విశ్వే - all
విధి - Vidhi (Brahma)
శతమఖః ఆద్యాః - Satamkha (Indra) and others
దివిషదః - inhabitants of heaven
కరాలం - dreadful
యత్ - because
క్ష్వేలం - poison
కబలితవతః - one who has swallowed a mouthful
కాల కలనా - subject to time (does not succumb to death)
న - not
శంభోః - for Sambhu (Siva)
తత్ మూలం - because of it
తవ జనని - your Oh Mother! (Sakti)
తాటంక మహిమా - the greatness of the earring (the Sricakra)

Having eaten even ambrosia, which removes the fearful old age (and) death, Vidhi, Satamakha and all other inhabitants of heaven die. (But if) Sambhu, who has swallowed a mouthful of the dreadful poison is not subject to time because of it, (it is) because of the greatness of your earring Oh Mother!
(Siva is freed from death by Sakti
Cf SVL, verse 28 : The devotee is freed from the cycle
of birth and death by worship of Siva).

కిరీటం వైరించం పరిహర పురః కైటభభిదః
కఠోరే కోటీరే స్ఖలసి జహి జంభారి మకుటమ్ ,
ప్రణమ్రేష్వేతేషు ప్రసభముపయాతస్య భవనం
భవస్యాభ్యుత్థానే తవ పరిజనోక్తిర్విజయతే . ౨౯ .

కిరీటం - the crown
వైరించం - of Virinchi (Brahma)
పరిహర - you avoid
పురః - in front
కైటభ భిదః - the destroyer of (the demon) Kaitabha (Vishnu)
కఠోరే కోటీరే - the hard crown
స్ఖలసి - you (will) trip
జహి - avoid
జంభారి మకుటమ్ - the crown of the enemy of Jambha (Indra)
ప్రణమ్రేషు ఏతేషు - when these (gods) are paying obeissance
ప్రసభం - impetuously
ఉపయాతస్య భవనం - who approaches (your) abode
భవస్య - of Bhava (Siva)
అభ్యుత్థానే - when you rise in honour
తవ - your
పరిజనోక్తిః - the words of the retinue
విజయతే - may it triumph

"Avoid the crown of Virinchi in front! You (will) trip on the hard crown of Kaitabhabhida! Avoid the crown of Jambhari!" May (such) words of your retinue triumph, when you impetuously rise in honour of Bhava, who approaches (your) abode, when these (gods) are paying obeissance.
(The celestials pray to Sakti.
Cf SVL, verse 29 : The celestials pray to Siva).

స్వదేహోద్భూతాభిర్‌ఘృణిభిరణిమాద్యాభిరభితో
నిషేవ్యే నిత్యే త్వామహమితి సదా భావయతి యః ,
కిమాశ్చర్యం తస్య త్రినయన సమృద్ధిం తృణయతో
మహాసంవర్తాగ్నిర్విరచయతి నీరాజన విధిమ్ . ౩౦ .

స్వదేహోద్భూతాభిః - generated from (your) own body
ఘృణిభిః - by the light rays
అణిమాద్యాభిః - Anima (capacity for atomic reduction) and others
(the eight superhuman powers or Siddhis, personified as godesses)
అభితః - surrounded by
నిషేవ్యే - Oh one worthy of adoration! (Sakti)
నిత్యే - Oh eternal one! (Sakti)
త్వాం అహం ఇతి - you as the self (the aphorisitic declaration
అహం బ్రహ్మాస్మి)
సదా - always
భావయతి - meditates
యః - he who
కిం ఆశ్చర్యం - Oh how wonderful!
తస్య - to him
త్రినయన సమృద్ధిం - the wealth of absorption into the three eyed one (Siva)
తృణయతః - as equivalent to (but a piece of) straw
మహా సంవర్తాగ్నిః - the great fire of dissolution
విరచయతి - performs
నీరాజన విధిం - the ceremony of waving lights (as an act of
adoration to the deity)

Oh one worthy of adoration! Oh eternal one! he who constantly meditates on you, who is surrounded by the light rays of Anima and others generated from your own body, as the self, to him (the devotee) who considers the wealth of absorption into Siva as equivalent to (but) a piece of straw, the great fire of dissolution performs the ceremony of waving lights. Oh how wonderful!
(The devotee of Sakti considers himself superior to Siva.
Cf SVL, verse 30 : The devotee of Siva considers himself
inferior to the celestial devotees).
